hoary bug: policy; should I patch myself?

Not sure about Ubuntu policy here. I filed the following bug report for
gwenview (KDE Image viewer):
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109554
As that bug page says, the bug has been resolved in later versions of
gwenview, and there is also (in the bug report) a patch for the version in
Hoary.
So... would Hoary's package be upgraded and/or patched to fix this, or should
I just rebuild from package sources with the patch and then wait for Breezy?
