Resetting Touchpad After PS/2 Mouse

Hi,

When I plug in a PS2 mouse to my laptop both input devices work fine
(touchpad and ps2 mouse, all buttons, wheel, etc. as expected)

When I unplug the PS2 mouse my touchpad's "scroll" feature stops
working, as well as some other behaviour such as two-finger detection
(simulate middle click), click and drag, etc.

Basically it beomces a 'dumb' mouse and it's pretty annoying.

When I plug in the PS2 Mouse My log shows this:
Jul 23 18:38:54 localhost kernel: input: ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse on
isa0060/serio1

Both inputs work properly as I would expect.

When I unplug the PS2 Mouse my log shows this:
Jul 23 18:39:57 localhost kernel: Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1
Jul 23 18:39:57 localhost kernel: Firmware: 5.9
Jul 23 18:39:57 localhost kernel: Sensor: 35
Jul 23 18:39:57 localhost kernel: new absolute packet format
Jul 23 18:39:57 localhost kernel: Touchpad has extended capability bits
Jul 23 18:39:57 localhost kernel: -> multifinger detection
Jul 23 18:39:57 localhost kernel: -> palm detection
Jul 23 18:39:57 localhost kernel: input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad on
isa0060/serio1

It looks proper, but, as stated, the features do not work.

Any ideas on how I can reset (without rebooting) the touchpad?

Thanks.

PS: Please don't CC me.
