mysqli for PHP5

Hi,

I have installed on my system Apache2, MySQL4.1 and PHP5 
(http://people.debian.org/~dexter php5 hoary).,
I know this is not supported yet, but I unfortunatelly have lots of 
scripts using php5 features such as mysqli.

The sad thing is that I cannot find a mysqli package for Ubuntu.  As an 
aside, on that package exist for debian is there but I cannot find the 
libapache2-mod-php5 (Ubuntu has it).

Does anybody know how I could get mysqli to work on Ubuntu?
Or alternatively, how I could tweak Debian into using Ubuntu's 
libapache2-mod-php5?
