It's true that new releases come every 6 months, but the lifecycle is 
not 6 months, it is 18 months (the duration of security updates for 
each release).

It may be disappointing to have to wait for the CDs, but even if 
they're delayed by several months, there should still be over a year 
of "life" in the release.  The recipients of those CDs may have a 
slightly out of date set of software, and will probably have quite a 
few security updates to download and install, but they will enjoy a 
reasonable period of support for their system.  As a bonus, updating 
to the next release will be very easy (if they have a decent internet 
connection) -- they'll just have to make a few changes to their 
repository list, then update & upgrade.
