can't launch Ethereal as root

This is a bug and the ubuntu/ethereal package needs teaching to use 'sudo'
(user-password) instead of 'su'.  Could you file a bug please?

For the moment, run a 'Terminal' and type:

  sudo ethereal

then enter your password as you would do for normal system administration.
