OT boot floppy

I can't boot from CD. When I was messing around with Fedora, I found a
reference to a boot floppy you could use that would actually boot from
floppy then let you pick which device to boot. So I could boot with the
floppy in, then choose cd. This let me install Fedora.

I need something like this to reinstall Ubuntu, but I've lost the link
and the Fedora FAQ has been updated and that link has been removed.
Anybody know what I'm talking about? I've been googling for nearly an
hour and can't find it!
