Detecting more than 4 IDE Devices on a Gigabyte RAID motherbaord

Hi folks,
I've have K8VNXP Gigabyte motherboard and I've just enabled the internal 
RAID controller in ATA (not RAID) mode so I can add a 5th IDE device. 
This motherboard has 4 IDE channels so theoretically it can go to 8 IDE 
devices. Unfortunately I don't know how to tell Ubuntu this extra drive 
is attached and it doesn't auto detect it. Any thoughts anyone? I'm 
using Hoary.
