How Ubuntu(liveCD) detect hardware

Hello, Colin
So, do you mean Ubuntu don't do any specical modify on hotplug? But i 
heard Ubuntu deal with hardware  detection in hotplug, Knoppix, Morphix, 
Gnoppix also have hotplug, so, what's the difference?
