Printing multiple pages per page

Hi all,
When using kde in debian before switching to Ubuntu I was able to
print (via cups) multiple pages on a single page. I.e. I could print
two portrait pages at 2perPage and they would end up side by side
(landscape) next to each other on one page.
Now, (from openoffice/openoffice2) using Gnome (or KDE) in Ubuntu I
don't seem to be able to do this. The printer has remained the same.
(ipp network, HP Laserjet)
I've tried changing between the 3 printer drivers offered to me. But
I don't seem to be given either landscape printing, or
multiple-pages-per-page anywhere as an option.
I've tried using the 'brochure' mode, but that prints the two pages
next to each other, on the top half of a portrait-oriented page.
Suggestions?
