Changing Gnome menu icon

I was wondering if it is possible to change the icon next to the Applications
menu.

I've found some directions in [1]this post, I tried to follow them by
setting /apps/panel/objects/menu_bar_screen0/use_custom_icon to true and
setting /apps/panel/objects/menu_bar_screen0/custom_icon to some filename
(e.g. /usr/share/pixmaps/<something>), but nothing happened.

I'm using Hoary.
