Ok, first you need to obtain your Vendor and productID.
sync the device (gnome-pilot is not yet needed), so it registers on the
USB port.

Try lsusb (from usb-utils if not installed). to find this out.

locate the file devices.xml in the gnome-pilot install (synaptic or
dpkg can show this).  I'm not on my Ubuntu right now, so I can't
check.

Check if your device is in, if not, add it in the same manner the
orthers are.

Now, press sync again (like before).
then type in a terminal: dmesg

This will show to which tty it binds (ttyUSB0).

IF that looks ok, try configuring gnome-pilot.  Start off with a lower
speed.
