WiFi how to set WEP and SSID

I am recalling this from memory only, I could be slightly off...

1. The relevant drivers for prism (linux-wlan) are included in ubuntu
kernels, so no worries with having to compile stuff.

2. linux-wlan drivers do not support the standard "linux wireless
extensions" and as such will probably not be able to be configured
through the gnome gui tools.

3. to setup your card you must:

3.1 install the package "linux-wlan-ng" (apt-get install
linux-wlan-ng) which provides the setup tools for prism2 based cards.

3.2 add some lines which specify the ssid and wep key in the standard
debian network configuration file "/etc/network/interfaces".

3.2 is the important part, the way you do this is to read the
instructions found in the "Configuring linux-wlan-ng" section of the
file:
/usr/share/doc/linux-wlan-ng/README.Debian.gz
which comes in the linux-wlan-ng package.

Hope this helps,
Dave
