using floppies

The reason Evolution can do this is because it is a Gnome application
whereas Openoffice is not. Evolution makes use of gnomes standard open
dialog box that uses gnome-volume-manager (think it is this?) to find
what devices are available.
The development team behind openoffice are working on tighter gnome
integration so it is a case of waiting i suppose unless you know how
to go about adding it ;)
