Remapping keys in X

I've had the same issues in Debian and I ended up with explicitely
adding "/usr/bin/X11/xmodmap /home/shot/.modmap" to my session. There
are times between upgrades when it prevents the GNOME splash screen from
dissapearing, but it seem sorted out in current sid (I'm not sure how
it would work in Warty or current Hoary); either way, clicking the GNOME
splash makes it disappear, so it's only a minor nuisance.

Same here. Going with Xmodmap was easier and faster, although
I'd surely like to be able to do the same with Xkbmap instead...
