Debian or Ubuntu?

You said you installed sarge, try woody. It's not hard if you're familiar with
kernel modules (and kernels), mirrors, packages, and a bunch of other things
that confuse non-geeks, but most newbies probably couldn't do it and have their
hardware all work. Also, the woody base-config even asks you if you want to use
dselect, which is a very annoying tool.
