I am curious as to why you didn't raise the code of conduct when
ordinary list members were being abused (eg. called 'stupid') by some of
the more macho tech cognoscenti here.
By the way, I really do intend this as a non-rhetorical question and
would like it raised if possible at your Community Council. I can think
right now of 3 rather untechnical users who have tried various versions
of Linux and abandoned it having been put off by the aggressive attitude
of 'experts' and, in one case, by the abuse they have received for
asking simple questions. There is a bit of a hairy-chested element who
tend to hang out on IT mailing lists, including this one, and I'd like
to see their aggressive behaviour questioned in some way.
The input of the hairy-chested types tends to polarise a thread like
this one, making it hard to maintain real communication. I doubt if many
of the members on either side of this particular issue are incapable of
having a reasoned discussion (even having their minds changed!) if it's
kept civil.
