Upgrading from amd64-generic to amd64-k8-smp on Warty

Hi,

I used the Warty Warthog installation CD to set up my dual
Opteron machine. The installation automatically installed

linux-image-2.6.8.1-4-amd64-generic

(the version shown may include security patches subsequent
to the original install). Now I want to take advantage of the SMP
capabilities of this machine. Is it as simple as

apt-get install linux-image-2.6.8.1-4-amd64-k8-smp

Will I need to reboot to start this new kernel?
Is there a recommended procedure to switch from the generic
install kernel to the kernel optimized for a particular hardware?

Thanks,
Charlie
