changing resolution without screen

"Push" the desktop into the top left corner, until you can see the
'computer' menu. Open it, then go to 'System Configuration', the click
on 'Screen resolution'. This should display a small dialog window where
you can select the screen resolution and refresh rate that you want to
use.

Well it you have a broadband modem with an Ethernet interface, it takes
2 seconds to set up the internet connection. Just run 'pppoeconf' in a
terminal window or virtual console.
If you have a USB modem, or dial-up, then I don't know how it works.
