Problems with WLAN and WEP

Greetings,
I recently managed to get my WLAN running. I have an old Accesspoint
(ATMEL driven) and a generic centrino laptop running warty.

Everything is fine if I dont use WEP. I installed waproamd, created
the necessary key file and so on, and it just plain fails. As soon as
I activate WEP on the AP I can configure what ever I want on the
notebook, I get no connection. And because I dont have neither another
AP nor another notebook I dont know how to check which of both is the
problem.

Did anybody else have this or a similar problem? Or any suggestions
on how to proceed? or debug? I have no experience with WLAN so I dont
know how to start on this.

And no, as I live in a urban environment I will not use my WLAN
without WEP for more than 2 minutes, leaky as WEP may be.

best regards,

mfg
