Root owns my CD-RW's after re-inst. - can't burn

Further update: I can't get Nautilus, Gnome-Baker or XCDRoast to work
properly, but I followed a tip-off to try CDRToaster from the Universe.
It's an old fashioned looking application written by someone with a
quirky sense of humour... but it works!

Now, if CDRToaster can work, why can't the others?   My research
continues...
