Samsung ML 4500 and printing

Dear Guys,

I have been trying to get ubuntu to detect/install a nice Queue for a
samsung ML 4500 laser printer attached to the parallel port on my nice
dell Pc.
It used to work under Mandrake, and according the web
(linuxprinting.org) installing the printer should be trivial.

Has any one got any suggestion where the problems could lie as it is not
auto-detecting and any manual configurations lead to no communication
between pc and printer.
