for me as a somewhat joe-average-user i hope ubuntu stays gnome-only.
that's one of things that makes ubuntu (at least for me) SPECIAL.
and while trying different distros and DEs over the years, i really
don't see the correlation between the slick, light and simple
ubuntu-desktop/attitude and the wish to include kde.
maybe im biased, but i think simplicity is nothing that goes with kde.
as i am not a developer, and so unable to tell what's possible and
what's not, i would rather see the work that must be done for including
kde in ubuntu goes into other projects. there are, in my opinion, better
places to start working on.
for example gnome is in dire need of an reasonable cd/dvd-burning
application. gstreamer could need some help ;),...
wouldn't it be more reasonable to start working on things like that than
starting to include a second DE which WILL break the simplicity-effort?
i think one of linux's powers is one of it's weaknesses:
you have ALWAYS the choice.
that's in some ways good, in some not.
while there are two big DEs in linux, there is not ONE application that
handles cd/dvd-burning reasonable like say nero for win32 does.
so being {PutYourFavouriteDEHere}-centric is in my opinion an advantage.
cause someone can concentrate on things.
i hope this dosen't sounds too demanding.
it' just my opinion ;)
