Firefox Problems

I installed Firefox 1.0 (from Mozilla). 

I tried installing an extension that didn't install right.

I went to the extension panel and told Firefox to remove the
extension. Firefox told me to restart (Firefox) and it would remove
the extension. I restarted Firefox.

The only problem is the extension is still installed and
malfunctioning. The extension panel still says the extension will be
removed when Firefox is restarted.

So I tried removing the ~/.mozilla folder and the folder where I put
Firefox (~/firefox).

I then reinstalled Firefox and restarted it. But the old theme and
extensions, to include the malfunctioning extension are still there!

How the heck do I get rid of all this and start with a fresh install of Firefox?
