I've had it too. I found out it worked... sometimes. I really like the 
feature, like browsing an ssh-remote system graphically... But it's not 
flawless, as of now.

It's easy to scream "It should be fixed", of course - but what would be 
nicer, if it was possible to do this transparently. Like lufs/shfs, for 
example. It mounts a remote filesystem, so you don't even depend on gnome.

Now I heard that particular lufs was not being maintained, or not viable 
for other reasons. Is it inherently a bad idea, or would it actually be 
nicer than doing it with gnome?
