.forward file contents

I am having some problem getting Procmail to run when fetchmail polls my 
pop account, and I think it has to do with not having a ~/.forward 
file.  I found a sort of example in the man page for procmail, but it 
isn't quite clear exactly what the contents of the .forward file should 
look like.  Can someone give me an idea what the basic entry is supposed 
to look like in a .forward file.  I can run Procmail on the mailbox 
after I have downloaded all the messages and sort them into folders, but 
I want to do it as they download automatically. I've used Procmail 
succcessfully before and have my .procmailrc saved and working, but I 
forgot about the .forward file.
