Warty using wrong sound module

My system has a VIA 8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller. Ubuntu loads 
and uses the snd_via82xx module. This doesn't produce any sound. It also 
loads various other snd_via82xx related modules plus the via82cxxx module.

Knoppix (3.3) loads the via82cxxx module, which works, and Mandrake 
(9.1) offers me the choice of snd-via82xx (default - doesn't work) and 
via82cxxx (alternative - works).

So how can I change the Warty setup so that it uses the via82cxxx driver?
