There is a very easy und pleasing way to configure qt.
get 'kcontrol' and 'kdeartwork-style' (via synaptic or apt-get) and run
kcontrol after the installation. There you can chose fonts,
window-themes, etc.
The Plastik-Theme is very compatible (optical ;) with the gnome
industrial theme.
Scribus is really a nice program - give it a try.
