have you tried Quanta? http://quanta.sourceforge.net/
I've been using it for ages and the reason I moved over to Ubuntu was that Ubuntu's Debian packaging system would allow me to install all the development packages that I needed to build the latest stable release of Quanta. It works like a dream. A friend uses DW and he hasn't got half the control that I've got with Quanta. Give it a try!
