Upgrading from another Debian

It may well be possible but certainly not recommended, you will run into
problems with different versions of init scripts and configuration files
etc and it wont save any time compared to a fresh install and may not
even work. You're better off backing up any data you want to keep and
doing a fresh install. I did give it a try from Debian Sarge but ended
up with a bit of a hybrid (not pure Ubuntu) and a few things broken so I
installed Warty and then upgraded to Hoary which definitely does work.
More recently I installed Hoary array CD 5 on another PC which is a
faster way to go because the packages are more up to date so less
downloading to do.
