Confused Newbie: CD-RW as SCSI Device in Warty?

Hi again,
I am still trying to copy an audio CD in Warty. At this point, I am
getting a little philosophical. With the Warty kernel, the days of
ATAPI IDE CD-R, RW, DVD-R having to pretend to be SCSI devices should
be definitively over, aren't they??? Can anyone enlighten me on this
issue? I have tried pretty much everything else. To summarize, I can't
create an image as suggested in the Unofficial Ubuntu Guide and every
GUI software I have tried (xcdroast, K3B Gnome Baker, etc.) spits
error messages back at me. I can listen to audio CDs and watch VCDs
and DVDs, so what gives. I have two different CD-R, RW, DVD-R drives.
Cheers,
Brian
