I think we're always going to see this.
Ubuntu uses GNOME as its base ... and it is *based* around the GNOME
desktop. It doesn't say it *is* the GNOME desktop.
The beauty of OSS is the ability to do a best of breed solution of
which I believe Ubuntu is.
The inability to include certain functionality lies with the
corporates who own the IP/copyright.
I am sure Canonical would support a lot more if their hands weren't
effectively tied.
That's another reason we have universe/multiverse :)
And the ability to roll-your-own is also there.
