There's no "activate when computer starts" checkbox in the property 
window, there's just a "this device is configured" checkbox.
but I've tried Mark Roach's trick (put "auto ath0" in the 
/etc/network/interfaces file) and it works fine so there's o problem 
with modules.

So I think the checkbox is just missing.
