Ubuntu's performance : how to speed up ?

Wow, that's quite complicated :-/

I had a look at the DAR page Russ gave, it looks well featured/flexible,
runs from the command line for those who prefer that, and therefore
could also be run as a cron job automatically in the background at
night. But, it also comes with an API, so you can make GUI for it.

So I think that for Hoary+1, it would be a great project for Ubuntu,
make a nice little, easy to use GUI for DAR, to let people set a back-up
scheme. Either manual, using removeable media, or in the background and
automatically, on the local file system or to some remote drive using a
netword.
That would be a great addition to Ubuntu :o)
