No, I have OO 1.1.2 also.  Try again thusly:

from the menu: 'tools'
'options' is right at the bottom.
When the dialog opens click on 'OpenOffice.org' at the top
'memory' should be the third choice
under 'graphics cache' there is 'Use for OpenOffice.org'
Set it to what you'd like and try it out.  If not fast enough, set it
higher.
