I am gettign more and more worried about Gnome 2.10
Yesterday I upgraded Array 4 (130MB of updates !), which upgraded Gnome
from 2.9.90 to 2.9.91, but I noticed that the Applications menu is still
not fixed, no way to add new icons, and no GUI to customize the menu
(unless I missed it).
I just checked Gnome's release plan : http://www.gnome.org/start/2.9/
which clealy says that 2.9.91 is now PAST UI/feature freeze ! That means
that the menu system will, logically, not be modified anymore !
Also, I noticed that Nautilus is now going BACKwards ! Now, you can't
hide/show files with a K/B shortcut (Control + H) anymore, you have to
toggle it with the mouse in a menu, like in Gnome 2.4 (almost) !!
Also, the new volume mixer is ugly and higly impractical, with PCM and
Line-in channels on different tabs, so I have to switch all the time
between the two tabs, depending if I want to control the TV card volume,
or Rhythmbox/Totem/etc volume !
So unless Ubuntu fixes all that themselves once Gnome is released, then
Wart/Gnome 2.8 is much better ! :-/
I can see that 2.10 has nice little touches about networking tools/GUIs,
but it hardly compensates for the other problems...
I hope Gnome 2.12 (3.0 ?) will be significantly better... :-(
Vince, disappointed :o(
