Strange slow down of my system

Hi all

I don't what I've done that has made my system to look somehow slow.
When I click on the Home icon to run Nautilus it taske more than 10
miniutes for it to show up! At first I thought that it is not even
going to show up but it suddenly showed up. The samething is also the
case with Gedit and sometimes Firefox.

Is there a way I can fix this problem?
