so 3 days ago i installed hoary,
and now on the same system, using the same disk
and the same CD, i can not get it to install anymore.
i also made a new CD, that didn't help either.
i tried to verify the md5sum of the cd, but get:
$ md5sum /dev/cdrom
error processing /dev/cdrom: failed in buffer_read(fd): mdfile:
Input/output error
does this work for you ?
after installation from the CD is done,
i get a restart, and then the error message:
"Ubuntu base system
there was a problem installing the selected software.
This may be due to bugs in the packages, or you may be
out of disk space or experiencing some other problem."
the error message is so vague, is there a way to resolve this ?
the root partition for the installation is 5 GB, /home also.
now the good news :-)
i installed warty on an adjacent partition now,
and even sound is working in warty :-)
synaptic also introduced an error in hoary,
where the terminal window is not shown by default,
and when a cli script asks for some manual input,
the process just stalls and the user never gets notified.
