Hello everyone-
I have recently installed Ubuntu on a couple of machines and am really
enjoying it. I'm having some problems with one of them, I wonder if
anyone could help:
A word or two about the situation:
There are two usb ports on the motherboard, both of which work (at
least individually). There is a HP psc2175 with a memory card slot
plugged into one of the usb ports. This works great, in either port,
when plugged in by itself. When a memory card is inserted, it is
automatically mounted and everything. Here is the output of
/var/log/messages when it is plugged in:

Feb 10 15:11:36 localhost kernel: ohci_hcd 0000:00:02.2: wakeup
Feb 10 15:11:36 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device
using address 25
Feb 10 15:11:36 localhost kernel: drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0:
USB Bidirectional printer dev 25 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x03F0 pid
0x2B11
Feb 10 15:11:38 localhost kernel: scsi11 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass
Storage devices
Feb 10 15:11:38 localhost kernel: Vendor: HP Model: psc 2175
        Rev: 1.00
Feb 10 15:11:38 localhost kernel:   Type:   Direct-Access
        ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Feb 10 15:11:38 localhost kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sda at
scsi11, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
Feb 10 15:11:38 localhost scsi.agent[8016]: disk at
/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.2/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.3/host11/11:0:0:0

Looks good, works good, and we even have a /dev/sda
But when an ipod is plugged into the other port, it disconnects the
printer, and fails to read the ipod. Here is the output from
/var/log/messages:

Feb 10 15:13:46 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 25
Feb 10 15:13:46 localhost kernel: drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed

Then, if I remove the ipod the printer is remounted:

Feb 10 15:14:53 localhost kernel: ohci_hcd 0000:00:02.2: wakeup
Feb 10 15:14:54 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device
using address 26
Feb 10 15:14:54 localhost kernel: drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0:
USB Bidirectional printer dev 26 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x03F0 pid
0x2B11
Feb 10 15:14:54 localhost kernel: scsi12 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass
Storage devices
Feb 10 15:14:54 localhost kernel: Vendor: HP Model: psc 2175
        Rev: 1.00
Feb 10 15:14:54 localhost kernel:   Type:   Direct-Access
        ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Feb 10 15:14:56 localhost kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sda at
scsi12, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
Feb 10 15:14:56 localhost scsi.agent[8339]: disk at
/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.2/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.3/host12/12:0:0:0

Now, if I unplug the printer from the usb, and then plug in JUST the
ipod, here is the message:

Feb 10 15:16:36 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 26
Feb 10 15:16:36 localhost kernel: drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed
Feb 10 15:16:43 localhost kernel: ohci_hcd 0000:00:02.2: wakeup
Feb 10 15:16:44 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device
using address 27
Feb 10 15:16:44 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device
using address 28
Feb 10 15:16:46 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device
using address 29
Feb 10 15:16:47 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device
using address 30

But there is still no /dev/sd* and no way to access the ipod (that I know of).
That's about all that I can think of for troubleshooting information.
Oh yeah, I plugged the ipod into the usb port of a laptop running the
same warty, and it was automatically mounted.
If anyone has any tips, I would love to hear them and would appreciate them...
Thanks in advance...
