Removing ubuntu-base?

Hello,

I was trying to get rid of certain packages that I make no use of,
like postfix and dhcp3 client. Only apt tells me that ubuntu-base
depends on them. Listing ubuntu-base files shows only 2 files, a
copyright and a gzip'ed file.

My questionsare:
- What exactly does ubuntu-base do?
- Is it ok to remove it anyway?
- Can I remove postfix (or other packages) without removing ubuntu-base?
- Can I remove postfix AND ubuntu-base then reinstall ubuntu-base
without postfix?
- Where do I find the deb package file for ubuntu-base?
