Three newbie questions

I think that some ISP's routers are designed to hand out a limited
number of IP Addresses. I know that mine will only give 1 address, so I
run that to a linux computer that does NAT for me.

Have you had multiple computers on the Internet at the same time
before? If not, you may be limited to 1 IP Address (or 3, I have also
heard). If you have had multiple computers simultaneously connected
before, it should work through DHCP.

Posting your ipconfig from Windows and ifconfig from Ubuntu will help a
lot to sort things out.

Also, if you post the name of your ISP, someone who also uses that ISP
may have some insight into their limitations.
