xsane Problems

if you can pick it up as root but not a user, chmod the device to make it available to users. By default, scanners are usually not restricted, but clearly this is the case.

Installed a Samsung 4720f multifuction machine; a few automated
installation problems with scanner; had to clean up /etc/sane.d and
dll.d conf files.

Scanner now works but must run xsane as root to recognize the scanner.

What must I reconfigure to run sxane as a non-root user with the
aforementioned scanner recognition.
