And the excellent email programs - and your ISPs - simply expect you to
attach to an SMTP server.  If you've configured your MTA _correctly_ that
could be "localhost", but it's just as easy to set it to your ISP's server,
so that's not what we're talking about.

If you can't make your email connect to your ISP's SMTP server, you're not
ready to configure your own.
