"Hibernation" : incompatible with SCSI controllers ?!

I am having a strange problem with the "hibernation" featurer in Breezy
(and in Dapper as well). It seems to have problems with my add-on PCI
SCSI controller card (old Adaptec 29xx something, uses the aic7xxx
driver). The card is used only to drive an SCSI Plextor CD writer, and I
only plug the card when want to use the CD writer (ie, not very often).
THe problem is the hibernation works flawlessly when the machine does
not have the SCSI card in it, but when the card is installed, I see the
following problem: going to hibernation goes well or so it seems. Then
when I restart the machine, it reads the data/"pages" back from the swap
partition, but then instead of restoring the machine's previous state,
the screen goes all black, the machine hangs (completely unresponsive)
and the "Caps Lock" light/LED on the keyboard, flashes !
It does it both in Breezy and Dapper. The only slight difference is that
in Breezy, instead of a black screen, it managed to cough a word or two
of text : "Kernel Panic" !! :-/
I can still boot the machine though: if the machine to fails to resume,
I can just reboot it and it will do a normal boot sequence, as if I
hadn't hibernated.
So, once I had rebooted to a working system, I checked
the /var/log/messages, but sadly the kernel paniced before logging was
enabled, so there were no relevant messages to be seen :o(
Has anyone experienced something like this, or might have ideas to fix
this ?
Regards,
