I'll point out that I used it for two very strict purposes. First, to get
"mambo" which is still afaik only available in debian/experimental (in the
end, I decided I wasn't interested). Second to get Tomcat, which is still
not available in Ubuntu. In both cases /etc/apt/preferences lists _only_
those packages ("mambo" and "*tomcat*", respectively) as installable and
for package "*" sets the priority to -1 (uninstallable). That's the only
way I've found to avoid most problems, and I still have the odd hiccup.

Not really. Breezy & Sarge became "stable" within weeks of each other.
Etch is evolving while Breezy isn't, so Breezy is still closer (imo) to
Sarge.
