firefox timing out before pages are loaded

Thx to Paul and Peter and others who posted this fix. Here's the final
report:

Firefox 1.07 loaded pages slowly "operation timed out" for no good
reason.

The same version of Firefox is installed on my home and office machines
both of which use Ubuntu and which previously used Mandriva. Both
machines also have XP Pro installed on other partitions. The machines
access the net through different ISPs though. The Firefox loaded pages
at home like a . . . well, like a Firefox. The one at the office didn't
load pages at all.

The fix was to type about:config into the address bar which pulled up a
configuration menu. Then network.dns.disableIPv6 has to be set to
"true" --- and then it works.

Thank you, thank you, thank you --- I'm using this system at my office
and this problem was a big one for me.

Best regards from the snowy, rural northwestern US!
