That reminds me of the operating system "QNX". In 1999 when I discovered
this OS, they cooked a demo floppy disc that could run on Desktop
computers (their primary target/business back then was mission critical
embedded systems, not consumer machines) with intel x86 CPU's. It
provided a full modern desktop: background pic, bottom panel with task
bar, a menu to start applications, a windowing system, could handles
modems, came with web browser, a notepad... all on one tiny 1.44MB
floppy disc. I was well impressed.
