Excuse me.  Phillip's completely correct.  A correctly functioning mail
client will treat a message sent as a "reply" as part of a thread even if
the subject is changed.  This is what the poster did, and knode (which I'll
admit isn't always unbroken) correctly treated it as part of the original
thread.

Why wouldn't evolution do the same?  imo, your client breaks the implied
contract with its users if it ignores references.
