Surely evolution ( the mail reader you seem to be using ) correctly 
threads email?  Thunderbird certainly does.  If you look at the headers 
you will understand.  His message shows:

In-reply-to: <43A07329.9060505 at cfl.rr.com>

Which indicates that it was in reply to my message, and hence, is part 
of the same thread, even though the subject is different.  If evolution 
doesn't think it is part of the same thread when the message clearly 
says that it is, then evolution is broken.  Or maybe you just don't use 
threaded mode and made a bad assumption?
