Question about installing second copy of Ubuntu

Hello everyone,

is it possible to install a second copy of Ubuntu (e.g. Dapper) on a 
second partition, without the second copy taking over control over the 
boot menu?

I'd like the second copy to add itself to /boot/grub/menu.lst on the 
first partition instead, and let the mbr/boot record alone.

Is this possible?
