I only compile from source when there is no other alternative.

My curiosity drove me crazy so I checked and in this case there is an 
alternative.

$ wget ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/pine/pine_4.64_i386.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i pine_4.64_i386.deb

Badda-Bing! Badda-Boom!
